ISLAMABAD: Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned drone and missile attacks targeting civilian infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates, expressing solidarity with Emirati leadership.
In a post on social media platform X, he said Pakistan stands with the UAE during the crisis and stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire.
āPakistan stands firmly with our Emirati brothers and sisters as well as with the government of the UAE at this difficult time,ā he stated.
āIt is absolutely essential that the ceasefire be upheld and respected, to allow necessary diplomatic space for dialogue leading to enduring peace and stability in the region,ā he added.
The statement follows reports from Monday that the UAE was struck by Iranian missile and drone attacks, including an incident near the Fujairah energy hub, where three Indian nationals were reportedly injured. The port is a key oil export route located outside the Strait of Hormuz.
The UAE Foreign Ministry called the strikes a ādangerous escalation and an unacceptable transgression,ā adding that the country reserves the right to respond.
Iranian state media reported that military officials confirmed the attacks were carried out in response to what they described as āUS militaryās adventurismā.
The incident comes after a period of relative calm following a Pakistan-mediated ceasefire between United States and Iran that began in early April and paused weeks of regional tensions.
Earlier attacks had already targeted Fujairahās energy infrastructure, including a drone strike on the Port of Fujairah that disrupted oil operations.
Separately, India also condemned the latest incident, calling for an immediate halt to hostilities and emphasizing the need for safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz under international law.
