ISLAMABAD (MNN); The Chairperson of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) held a meeting with the Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Pakistan, Mr Christoph Sutter, at the PRCS National Headquarters to review the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Merged Areas, particularly district Kurram and the Tirah Valley.
During the meeting, PRCS Chairperson Farzhana Naek briefed the ICRC delegation on the prevailing situation, highlighting the urgent humanitarian needs of communities affected by ongoing instability.
She said the fragile and sensitive conditions in the Merged Areas require immediate, coordinated and sustained humanitarian support to address growing vulnerabilities. She also reaffirmed the value of PRCSās long-standing partnership with the ICRC.
ICRC Head of Delegation Christoph Sutter reiterated the organisationās commitment to further strengthening cooperation with PRCS. He expressed the ICRCās readiness to support PRCS efforts in responding to the emerging humanitarian challenges in Kurram district and the Tirah Valley.
He further assured continued ICRC support for the PRCS Merged Areas Branch through the PRCS National Headquarters to effectively respond to the escalating situation. Mr Sutter also appreciated the PRCS National Headquarters for deploying National Disaster Response Teams to the affected areas, terming the move timely, proactive and critical to addressing urgent needs on the ground.
The meeting concluded with a joint commitment by PRCS and ICRC to enhance coordination and partnership, emphasising that providing timely and life-saving humanitarian assistance to affected communities is a shared responsibility.
