QUETTA (MNN); At least nine terrorists were killed during an operation carried out by the Counter Terrorism Department on the outskirts of Quetta, while four CTD personnel embraced martyrdom, officials said on Saturday.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the operation was conducted in the Panjpai and Nohsar areas located on the outskirts of the provincial capital.
The spokesperson said nine terrorists were neutralised during the exchange of fire, while four CTD personnel were martyred and six others sustained injuries.
The operation in Quetta came only hours after law enforcement agencies carried out an intelligence-based operation in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where 15 terrorists were killed and more than 10 others injured.
According to the Central Police Office, one police official was martyred during the operation conducted within the jurisdiction of Thana Miryan.
Security forces also recovered a 10-kilogram improvised explosive device during the raid and safely defused it.
Another police official sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital for treatment.
Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in cross-border terrorist attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged Kabul to stop militant organisations from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan.
However, Islamabad maintains that the Afghan Taliban administration has failed to take effective action against terrorist groups allegedly involved in attacks on Pakistani security personnel and civilians.
Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq in February this year, months after both countries agreed to a ceasefire in October 2025 following border clashes triggered by what Pakistan described as unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban forces at several crossing points.
Despite multiple rounds of negotiations, the two sides have so far failed to achieve a breakthrough due to differences over action against militant groups operating from Afghan territory.
