HUNZA; The scenic Hunza Valley is preparing to host the much-anticipated Silk Route Festival on August 9 and 10, a vibrant cultural event aimed at promoting tourism and spotlighting the region’s breathtaking natural beauty and centuries-old heritage.
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Karakoram mountains, the two-day festival will bring together local communities, tourists, and dignitaries—including ambassadors from several countries—highlighting Hunza’s growing significance as a tourism and cultural destination in northern Pakistan.
Mubarak Hussain, President of the Hunza Chamber of Small Traders and Industries, told PTV that the festival will provide a platform to showcase Hunza’s unique cultural identity and stunning landscapes. “This initiative is not just about celebration,” he said. “It’s about promoting economic activity and drawing attention to one of Pakistan’s most naturally and historically rich regions.”
The festival aligns with the peak summer season, when Hunza attracts thousands of domestic and foreign tourists due to its moderate climate, clear skies, and lush scenery. The area, once a vital segment of the ancient Silk Road, has long served as a corridor for trade and cultural exchange between Central Asia and South Asia.
Over recent years, Pakistan’s northern areas—particularly Gilgit-Baltistan—have seen a surge in tourism due to improved road infrastructure and increased global exposure. Events like the Silk Route Festival are now being seen as strategic tools to revive cultural tourism, empower local artisans, and attract sustainable investment in the region.
Organizers say attendees can expect cultural performances, traditional music, local crafts, and cuisine, all set in a region often referred to as “heaven on earth.”
