ISLAMABAD; The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has turned down repeated requests from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice-President Rajeev Shukla to transfer the Asia Cup 2025 trophy, Geo News reported on Tuesday.
The matter was raised during a routine ACC meeting in Dubai, chaired by Naqvi, where Shukla insisted several times that the trophy be handed over to BCCI officials.
However, Naqvi firmly responded that the trophy could only be collected by the Indian team’s captain directly from the ACC office. He further clarified that the issue was not on the official agenda of the meeting.
Sources revealed that BCCI officials, who attended the meeting virtually, strongly objected to Naqvi’s stance and suggested that the trophy should instead be transferred to the International Cricket Council (ICC) headquarters. Tensions escalated when the Indian delegation abruptly left the meeting, cutting off its digital participation.
Sources revealed that other ACC members attempted to mediate, urging restraint from both sides, but the matter remained unresolved.
The row comes against the backdrop of a series of controversies during the Asia Cup 2025. These included Indian players refusing handshakes and, most notably, declining to accept the championship trophy from Naqvi after defeating Pakistan in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Reportedly, this decision was taken under BCCI’s instructions, leading to an unusual conclusion of the tournament where the winning side did not lift the Trophy.
