PESHAWAR; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announced that a parliamentary security committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the provincial assembly speaker to address the provinceās growing law and order and security challenges.
Speaking to reporters after chairing the committeeās first meeting on Wednesday, CM Afridi said the discussion focused on the overall security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and expressed optimism that the committeeās efforts would yield āpositive and concrete outcomes.ā
He further revealed that the formation of the provincial cabinet would be announced soon.
Commenting on recent security operations, Afridi stressed the importance of evaluating collateral damage according to international standards. āIf 100 terrorists are killed but even two innocent civilians lose their lives, it is still wrong,ā he remarked.
He added that incidents where civilians are targeted without the elimination of militants cannot be classified as collateral damage. āWhen 20 or more innocent people are martyred and not a single terrorist is neutralised, that is not collateral damage ā it is a war crime, and it must be stopped,ā the chief minister asserted.
Afridi said that the newly formed parliamentary security committee aims to propose practical and effective solutions to address such issues.
In response to a question about the upcoming Senate elections, CM Afridi stated that the polls are scheduled for tomorrow and that it would soon become clear whether Barrister Saif would be part of the new provincial cabinet.
