Web Desk (MNN); Disgraced American financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein described Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader and former prime minister Imran Khan as a “major threat to peace” in 2018, shortly after the PTI secured victory in Pakistan’s general elections.
His comments appeared in an email conversation dated July 31, 2018, released this week by US Democrats on the House Oversight Committee.
Epstein, who was charged in 2019 by the US Justice Department for trafficking minors and later died by suicide in detention at age 66, made the remarks in an early-morning exchange with an unidentified contact.
At 4:04am, he commented on Russian President Vladimir Putin being “kind so far” before referring to US interference in foreign elections.
Moments later, he linked Imran Khan and Putin in the same message, alleging that Putin had not mentioned “assassinations, coup funding,” and then calling Imran “a much greater threat to peace” than Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini, China’s President Xi Jinping or even Putin himself.
His interlocutor responded with surprise, asking whether Epstein was referring to “the populist in Pakistan”. Epstein replied only: “really bad news,” seemingly indicating Imran.
When the other person questioned how Imran could be worse than “the Islamist”, Epstein described the PTI founder as “incapable of truth,” a “devout Islamist,” and someone who “makes Donald look like Einstein”.
He went on to claim that Imran was dangerous because Pakistan possessed nuclear weapons, adding personal remarks about Imran’s past marriages and alleging he had “forced” a former wife to convert. Epstein also suggested Imran was a charismatic figure who could “rouse a crowd,” likening his politics to a cult of personality.
The conversation then paused for about 40 minutes before shifting to other subjects.
As the leaked emails circulated on social media, users also resurfaced a 1990 photograph of Imran with British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell — Epstein’s long-time associate currently serving a 20-year sentence for aiding his abuse of underage girls.
The newly released emails highlight Epstein’s sprawling network of influential contacts, including senior advisers to then-President Donald Trump and Britain’s former Prince Andrew. Some emails suggest Trump was aware of Epstein’s criminal activities, though Trump has vehemently denied any knowledge or involvement.
Meanwhile, the US House of Representatives is preparing to vote next week on whether to compel the release of all investigative material collected on Epstein over the years, including the names of individuals suspected of participating in his alleged trafficking ring.
Trump has dismissed this push as a “hoax” but has simultaneously demanded investigations into Epstein’s connections with others, including former US president Bill Clinton.
