ISLAMABAD (MNN); The National Dialogue Committee has announced plans to convene a large consultative meeting of politicians, lawyers, and intellectuals to discuss the country’s political tensions and pressing national issues.
According to sources, committee members Fawad Chaudhry, Imran Ismail, and Mahmood Maulvi have already begun outreach to various political and social groups to ensure broad and representative participation. All three had previously been members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) but left the party following its violent May 9 protests.
The proposed meeting is expected to take place in Islamabad next week. Invitations will be extended to major political parties, including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Jamaat-e-Islami, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), and Awami National Party (ANP). Lawyers’ organisations and intellectuals from various fields will also be invited to encourage comprehensive discussions on national issues.
Sources said the conference aims to address the political crisis, constitutional matters, the democratic process, and potential future actions. The forum is intended to promote dialogue among different political forces and help reduce differences.
Efforts were also made to involve Tehreek-i-Tahaffuz-i-Aain Pakistan (TTAP), but the group declined to participate, stating that the current situation is unlikely to produce meaningful outcomes from such a conference.
Political analysts suggested that if most major parties participate, the meeting could be an important step toward political dialogue in the country, though others described the initiative as largely symbolic.
