RAWALPINDI (MNN); The eye condition of Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has shown noticeable improvement following a medical examination conducted at Adiala Jail, sources said on Sunday.
A five-member team of doctors carried out the check-up, which lasted about an hour. Among the medical professionals present were Dr Sikandar and Dr Arif. Sources revealed that the team waited nearly two and a half hours for PTI representatives to arrive, but proceeded with the examination when no one turned up.
According to jail authorities, the doctors brought necessary medical equipment and medicines with them, and their detailed report is expected to be finalised soon. An ambulance equipped for eye examinations is also stationed داخل the prison premises.
Imran Khan, who claims to have lost 85% vision in his right eye, was granted access to medical specialists on the orders of the Supreme Court. Earlier this week, his counsel Salman Safdar met him in jail and later submitted a report before a bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, requesting appropriate medical treatment.
Jail sources confirmed that an initial medical report has been forwarded to the Punjab Home Department. The report includes a comprehensive record of blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol levels, and other vital indicators. A separate report focusing specifically on his eye condition has also been dispatched from Rawalpindi.
Details of medical consultations, attending doctors, and examination timelines have been documented. Authorities stated that on-duty doctors conduct routine medical assessments three times daily and maintain a regular record of vital signs.
The Punjab Home Department had sought a complete medical report from Adiala jail authorities.
CRVO Diagnosis Raises Concerns
The latest development comes two weeks after reports indicated that Imran Khan had been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye condition commonly associated with cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease.
Following the diagnosis, PTI leaders and members of his family expressed concern over his health and demanded his transfer to a hospital for specialised treatment.
While the federal government maintains that all required medical facilities are being provided, lawmakers from PTI and the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen Pakistan staged a sit-in at Parliament House on March 13, urging authorities to shift him to a hospital.
The protest, now in its third day, is being held at Parliament House, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, and the Parliament Lodges. Participants include National Assembly Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, and former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
