LAKKI MARWAT (MNN); Security forces eliminated four Indian-sponsored militants during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district, according to the military’s media wing on Thursday.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations said the operation was conducted overnight after reports about the presence of khawarij linked to Indian proxy Fitna al Khawarij — a term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan.
The ISPR stated that security personnel effectively targeted the militants’ hideout. Following an intense exchange of fire, four militants were killed. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the deceased, who were allegedly involved in multiple terrorist activities in the area.
The statement added that a sanitisation operation was underway to clear the area of any remaining militants. Security forces and law enforcement agencies reaffirmed their resolve to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
The operation comes days after a deadly attack on a checkpost in Bajaur district, where an explosives-laden vehicle was used, resulting in the martyrdom of 11 security personnel. According to ISPR, security forces responded swiftly and killed 12 militants while engaging those attempting to flee.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a surge in militant violence over the past year. As per the Annual Security Report 2025 issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, fatalities in the province increased from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025 — a rise of 711 deaths, representing more than 82 per cent of the overall national increase and nearly a 44 per cent year-on-year escalation in violence.
