RAWALPINDI (MNN); Fresh developments have emerged in the case of a woman who alleged that her husband had illegally confined her and chained her legs in Rawalpindi’s Pirwadhai area, after CCTV footage reportedly raised questions about her claims.
According to police sources, the woman had accused her husband of keeping her in illegal confinement and forcing shackles onto her legs. Following the circulation of a viral video showing the woman in chains, City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera took notice of the incident, ordered the registration of a case, and directed an investigation. The husband was subsequently arrested.
However, CCTV footage that surfaced during the investigation allegedly shows the woman walking unassisted from her residence to the police station.
Investigators said the footage appears to show the woman entering the police station on foot before the viral video was recorded. Officials are also examining another video in which a man can allegedly be heard saying, “Sister, remove the shackles, the video has been recorded.”
Police sources further claimed that the blue-coloured wall visible in the viral video matches the interior of the police station rather than the woman’s home, prompting investigators to examine where and when the video was recorded.
According to preliminary findings, the dispute between the couple reportedly stemmed from a domestic disagreement over checking a mobile phone. Police said the investigation is continuing to determine the authenticity of the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the recording and circulation of the viral video.
Authorities have stressed that the matter remains under investigation, and any final determination will be made based on the available evidence and legal proceedings.
