LAHORE/RAWALPINDI (MNN); A controversy has emerged after Noreen Niazi, sister of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, made remarks regarding Pakistan’s military operation “Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos” and the armed forces during a recent interview.
According to the interview, Noreen Niazi alleged that the military operation was the result of an understanding between Pakistan’s military leadership and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She further claimed that India had refrained from escalating the conflict due to what she described as Israeli interests and alleged efforts to bring Pakistan into the Abraham Accords framework.
She also claimed that Pakistan was moving towards recognising Israel and asserted that the military operation was staged to enhance the image of the armed forces. These claims have not been substantiated with evidence.
The remarks triggered strong political reaction, with Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari condemning the statements and describing them as irresponsible and damaging to Pakistan’s national interests.
In a statement, Bokhari said Noorine Niazi’s comments reflected the mindset of the PTI founder and alleged that the family was uncomfortable with Pakistan’s national achievements.
She said the international community had acknowledged Pakistan’s military success during “Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos” and termed Noorine Niazi’s remarks regarding Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as regrettable and condemnable.
The Punjab minister praised the armed forces, saying Pakistan’s military and the Pakistan Air Force had demonstrated exceptional professionalism during the operation, earning the admiration of the nation.
Political commentators also criticised Noreen Niazi remarks, arguing that such statements could reinforce hostile narratives against Pakistan and may be exploited by Indian media.
They said public figures should exercise responsibility while commenting on matters related to national security and defence.
The controversy has sparked political debate, with both supporters and critics expressing differing views over the remarks and the subsequent reaction.
