KARACHI (MNN); Authorities at Central Jail Karachi on Tuesday requested a medical team from Civil Hospital Karachi to examine alleged drug suspect Anmol alias Pinky after she reported kidney-related health complications.
In a letter dated May 26, the jail superintendent asked the hospital to send a medical team after an initial examination at the prison clinic on May 23 recommended further medical assessment.
According to the report, an ultrasound detected an echogenic area in one kidney, which doctors said could indicate a benign condition known as angiomyolipoma. Physicians recommended a repeat scan after fasting, along with further laboratory tests and additional evaluation.
The report also stated that she requires further examination for possible stones and advised referral to the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation.
Jail officials said shifting the accused to hospital could create serious security concerns due to her high-profile status. They maintained that moving her outside the prison carries extraordinary risks and could lead to security-related incidents.
As a result, the jail administration requested that her examination be carried out inside the prison or through a specially formed medical board under strict security arrangements.
South Deputy Inspector General Syed Asad Raza also confirmed that police had asked for her treatment to be provided within the jail premises.
Last week, Anmol alias Pinky was sent to judicial custody for 14 days in several narcotics cases as well as a murder case.
She was arrested earlier this month in Karachi in connection with two separate cases involving alleged possession of narcotics and an unlicensed weapon. Officials say she was already facing multiple criminal charges before her arrest, with more than a dozen cases currently registered against her.
