RAWALPINDI (MNN); The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Saturday that security forces eliminated nine terrorists during two separate intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwaās Tank and Lakki Marwat districts.
According to the statement, the terrorists, described as khawarij and linked to the Indian-backed group Fitna Al Khawarij ā a term the state uses for members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ā were targeted on December 5.
ISPR said an operation was launched in Tank following reports of terrorist presence. Security personnel engaged the militants effectively, and after an intense exchange of fire, seven terrorists were killed.
In another operation conducted in Lakki Marwat, security forces neutralised two more militants. Weapons and ammunition were seized from the slain terrorists.
The military stated that the eliminated individuals were involved in multiple attacks on security forces, law enforcement agencies, and in the targeted killing of civilians.
The statement added that sanitisation of the area was ongoing to clear any remaining Indian-backed militants.
ISPR reaffirmed that the counterterrorism campaign under Azm-i-Istehkam would continue vigorously to eradicate all forms of foreign-supported terrorism.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the operations, saying that the armed forces were achieving significant success under Azm-i-Istehkam. He said the nation fully supports the security forces in their fight against terrorism.
President Asif Ali Zardari also commended the timely and courageous action of the forces and reiterated that Pakistanās resolve to eliminate terrorism remains unwavering.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi lauded the professionalism and swift action of the security personnel, noting that their efforts prevented major attacks and reflected their exceptional skill and commitment. He said the country takes pride in their bravery and dedication to restoring lasting peace in KP.
Pakistan continues to face increased terrorist incidents, particularly in KP and Balochistan, since the TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022. Earlier this week, security forces killed seven terrorists in two separate operations in North Waziristan.
