ISLAMABAD (MNN); The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of rain, wind and thunderstorms across several parts of the country from September 12 to 17, with temperatures expected to fall during the period.
According to the Met Office, monsoon currents are penetrating the upper parts of Pakistan, while a westerly wave is likely to enter the upper regions during the weekend and strengthen on September 14.
Kashmir, Punjab and Islamabad-Rawalpindi
Rain, wind and thundershowers, with isolated hailstorms and heavy rainfall, are expected in Kashmir from September 12 to 17, particularly in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur.
The same weather conditions are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang and Attock, with occasional gaps during the forecast period.
Across Punjab, rain and thunderstorms are expected from the evening of September 12 until September 17 in Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Hafizabad, Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan and adjoining areas.
Rain Forecast for KP and Gilgit-Baltistan
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain, wind and thunderstorms are likely in Peshawar, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Waziristan from September 12 to 17.
Rain, wind and thundershowers, including isolated heavy rainfall, are also expected in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Sindh, Karachi and Balochistan
Most parts of Sindh are likely to remain hot and humid. However, rain, wind and thunderstorms with isolated heavy showers are expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Thatta, Badin, Karachi and adjoining areas from the evening of September 13 to September 16.
The PMD said Karachi may receive thunderstorms and light rain from September 14 to 16.
Most parts of Balochistan are also expected to remain hot and humid. Rain is forecast for Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel and surrounding areas from September 13 to 16.
Urban Flooding, Flash Floods and Landslide Warning
In its advisory, the PMD warned that heavy rainfall could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Lahore between September 14 and 17.
The department also cautioned about possible flash floods in local streams and nullahs in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
There is also a risk of landslides in hilly areas of KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir during the rainy spell.
The PMD advised tourists and travellers to exercise caution and urged farmers to plan agricultural activities in accordance with the expected weather conditions.
The Met Office said temperatures are likely to decline across many areas during the forecast period.
