RAWALPINDI (MNN); Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday visited the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, where the military leadership provided him with a comprehensive briefing on the evolving situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The visit comes a day after Pakistan’s security forces launched an operation named Ghazab lil-Haq in response to what officials described as unprovoked cross-border attacks by the Afghan Taliban along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the premier directed authorities to adopt a policy of zero tolerance toward the alleged nexus between the Afghan Taliban and Fitna al Khawarij, as well as their hostile activities against Pakistan.
Fitna al Khawarij is the term used by the state for militants belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Prime Minister Shehbaz stated that the actions of the Afghan Taliban regime and Fitna al Khawarij against Pakistan were unacceptable and would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He said the country’s armed forces, under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, remain fully prepared to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Pakistan knows how to defend itself against any aggression,” the premier asserted.
The prime minister also commended the professionalism and operational readiness of the armed forces for effectively repelling attacks in border areas and responding forcefully.
He emphasized that the entire nation stands united with the armed forces in defending the homeland.
