ISLAMABAD (MNN); Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf confirmed on Sunday that Sohail Afridi and party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan recently met with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, with discussions centred on the worsening security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said the meeting primarily focused on terrorism in the province, particularly in Bannu, where two police officers and two civilians were martyred, while 25 militants were killed during a clash involving law enforcement personnel, a peace committee and armed militants on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters, Akram said the interior minister mainly discussed measures to contain terrorism and improve security in the region.
His comments came after a social media post by Aleema Khan clarified that neither she nor any member of Imran Khan’s family was aware of or present at the meeting.
Akram also rejected reports suggesting Aleema Khan attended the meeting, stating that only the KP chief minister and Barrister Gohar were present and that the discussions were limited to terrorist incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially Bannu.
Later, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said in a post on X that the meeting was solely related to the recent incidents in Bannu and the overall law and order situation in the province. He stressed that no political matters were discussed.
Sources said the meeting took place at Barrister Gohar’s residence on the night of May 14.
According to a senior PTI leader, one of the issues raised during the meeting was facilitating meetings between jailed PTI founder Imran Khan and his family and party leaders, along with arrangements for his medical treatment in hospital.
Although the Islamabad High Court has allowed Imran Khan to meet family members, lawyers and associates twice a week, party leaders say he has not been allowed regular access to visitors in recent weeks.
PTI has also been demanding that he be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for treatment following concerns over his eye condition, right central retinal vein occlusion, which surfaced earlier this year.
The PTI leader added that Mohsin Naqvi made it clear during the meeting that the KP chief minister was not among his preferred political figures.
Earlier this week, Sohail Afridi was asked during a press conference about reports of a meeting with an “important personality,” to which he responded that he was prepared to meet anyone for Imran Khan.
