ANKARA/RAWALPINDI (MNN); Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, is on an official visit to Türkiye to further enhance strategic, military and defence cooperation between Islamabad and Ankara, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.
According to the military’s media wing, Field Marshal Asim Munir held a series of high-level meetings with Türkiye’s political and military leadership, reflecting the deep-rooted friendship and growing strategic partnership between the two countries.
During the visit, the Field Marshal called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler to discuss matters of mutual interest, regional security and expanding bilateral defence collaboration.
The discussions focused on strengthening the Pakistan-Türkiye strategic partnership in light of the evolving regional and global geopolitical environment.
President Erdoğan also received Field Marshal Asim Munir in Ankara, reaffirming the longstanding ties between the two brotherly nations.
At the Turkish General Staff Headquarters, the Pakistani military chief was presented with a Guard of Honour before holding detailed talks with Chief of the Turkish General Staff, General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu. The two military leaders exchanged views on regional security developments, professional military cooperation and matters of mutual strategic interest.
In recognition of his outstanding services and significant contribution to strengthening defence ties between Pakistan and Türkiye, General Bayraktaroğlu conferred the Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal upon Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The Field Marshal also met Commander of the Turkish Land Forces, General Metin Tokel, to discuss ways to further enhance bilateral military cooperation and defence collaboration.
In a statement, the Turkish Embassy in Pakistan said Field Marshal Asim Munir was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour, describing Pakistan-Türkiye defence relations as being founded on brotherhood, mutual trust and a shared strategic vision.
The Turkish Armed Forces also confirmed that comprehensive bilateral and delegation-level meetings were held during the visit.
As part of his engagements, Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of the founder of modern Türkiye, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, where he laid a floral wreath and paid tribute to Atatürk’s leadership while acknowledging the historic bonds between Pakistan and Türkiye.
The ISPR said the visit reflects the commitment of both countries to further deepen their multifaceted defence partnership and continue working together for regional peace, security and stability.
The visit follows General Metin Tokel’s official trip to Pakistan last month, during which he met Field Marshal Asim Munir, as well as the chiefs of the Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force, to discuss regional security and avenues for expanding bilateral military cooperation.
