SWAT/RAWALPINDI (MNN); Security forces killed 32 terrorists during intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan over the past 24 hours, while a police constable embraced martyrdom during an ongoing counterterrorism operation in Swat, the military and police said on Wednesday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted coordinated intelligence-based and area sanitisation operations against militants described by the state as Fitna-al-Khawarij in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fitna-al-Hindustan in Balochistan.
The military said 24 terrorists were eliminated during operations in Khyber district on July 28 and 29, while eight militants were killed in multiple intelligence-based operations in Nushki, Balochistan. Weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive devices were also recovered and destroyed.
ISPR said follow-up sanitisation operations are continuing to eliminate any remaining militants, reaffirming that the counterterrorism campaign under Azm-i-Istehkam will continue until terrorism is eradicated.
Meanwhile, in Swat’s Matta tehsil, Elite Force Constable Gulfam was martyred while fighting terrorists during an overnight operation. Security officials later confirmed that four terrorists had also been killed, while the joint operation involving the Pakistan Army, police and other security agencies remains underway.
Security sources said four more militants had taken refuge inside a house and were allegedly using residents as human shields. Police have also secured a key strategic position in the Rashid Sar area of Matta.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the security forces for their professionalism and bravery, saying the successful operations had dealt a significant blow to terrorist networks and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to restore lasting peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
