ISLAMABAD (MNN); The Superintendent of Adiala Jail has strongly denied allegations that former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan is being held in solitary confinement, stating that he is receiving all facilities available under prison rules and is permitted to meet his wife, Bushra Bibi, every Tuesday.
In a written report submitted to the Islamabad High Court in response to a court notice, the jail superintendent said Imran Khan, who is serving a sentence in the £190 million case, is treated in accordance with the law like other convicted prisoners, without any discrimination. However, additional security measures have been put in place due to his status as a former prime minister and political leader.
The report states that no prisoner at Adiala Jail, including Imran Khan, is kept in solitary confinement, adding that the practice has largely been phased out in Pakistan’s prison system and is no longer commonly implemented or awarded by courts.
According to the report, Imran Khan is free to move within a seven-cell residential compound from the opening of the prison lock-up in the morning until it closes in the evening. He spends nights in his designated cell and is allowed to exercise in natural light and fresh air from sunrise to sunset.
The superintendent further informed the court that prison officials remain in regular contact with Imran Khan regarding his needs. The deputy superintendent meets him routinely, while prison doctors examine him three times a day, monitor his health, inspect his meals, and conduct additional medical check-ups whenever necessary.
The report also states that a full-time convicted inmate prepares three daily meals according to Imran Khan’s preferred menu. His privacy is maintained under prison rules, and his accommodation remains under constant security surveillance.
It further noted that lawyer Salman Safdar, appointed as a friend of the court, inspected Imran Khan’s prison cell on February 10, 2026, and submitted a report to the Supreme Court, concluding that his detention conditions were satisfactory and showed no indication of solitary confinement.
The superintendent requested the Islamabad High Court to dismiss the petition filed by Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, describing her allegations as speculative and baseless. The petition is scheduled to be heard on Wednesday by Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro.
