PESHAWAR (MNN); The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday barred authorities from deporting a petitioner named Quaid-e-Azam and directed him to appear before the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra)’s verification board to resolve issues related to his blocked Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC).
A two-member bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmed and Justice Inamullah Khan heard the petition challenging Nadra’s decision to block the petitioner’s identity card.
Representing the petitioner, Advocate Saifullah Mohib Kakakhel argued that his client is a Pakistani citizen engaged in business activities in both Pakistan and Dubai and regularly pays taxes. He told the court that the blocking of the CNIC had caused serious difficulties, affecting both his business and personal affairs.
The counsel further stated that Nadra had asked the petitioner to produce his uncle before the verification board despite other members of his family already possessing valid Pakistani identity cards.
Appearing on behalf of Nadra, Assistant Director (Legal) Shahid Imran Gigiyani informed the court that the authority had submitted its response, maintaining that the petitioner’s identity record had been classified as suspicious, leading to the suspension of his CNIC.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the PHC directed the petitioner to appear before Nadra’s verification board for further scrutiny. The court also ordered that no deportation action be taken against him until the verification process is completed.
