ISLAMABAD (MNN); A judicial magistrate on Saturday ordered the release on bail of the son of Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Muhammad Asif, after the families of the two young women killed in a road accident pardoned him before the court.
The fatal crash took place late Monday night near the Pakistan National Council of Arts in Islamabad. A black speeding SUV, allegedly driven by the accused Abuzar, struck two girls riding a scooter. Both victims, who worked part-time for an event management firm, died on the spot due to severe injuries.
Abuzar was arrested on Tuesday and placed on physical remand. After completion of the four-day remand, he was produced before Judicial Magistrate Shaista Kundi on Saturday. During the hearing, the magistrate recorded the statements of both families. One victim’s brother appeared in person, while her mother submitted her statement online. The father of the second girl also confirmed that he had forgiven the accused.
Following the submissions, the court approved bail for Abuzar and ordered his immediate release.
According to the FIR filed by Sub-Inspector Muhammad Asghar at the Secretariat Police Station, the SUV fled after hitting the victims. Police later traced the vehicle through its registration number and located Abuzar at a private hospital, where he had gone for treatment. He was taken into custody, while medical and forensic samples were collected and the SUV impounded.
Earlier, investigators had requested physical remand to verify medical reports, inspect the vehicle, and record eyewitness testimonies. The case invoked PPC Sections 322 (manslaughter), 279 (rash driving), and 427 (mischief causing damage).
With both families granting pardon, the magistrate approved bail and directed Abuzar’s release.
The incident recalls a similar 2022 hit-and-run case in Islamabad, in which an SUV allegedly driven by the daughter of a Lahore High Court judge killed two people near the Sohan Bridge. That investigation remained stalled for months.
In July 2024, Islamabad’s police chief informed the IHC that the vehicle involved in that case was used by Supreme Court Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed and driven by a woman. In February 2025, a local court acquitted Shanzay Malik, daughter of the Supreme Court judge, after Judicial Magistrate Adnan Yousuf accepted her acquittal plea.
