CHAGAI (MNN); Hundreds of heavily armed militants reportedly entered Chagai town in Balochistan on Thursday, taking control of key government installations and disrupting normal life, according to local sources.
Sources said the armed men established their presence across the town, occupying several public buildings, including government offices, banks and police facilities.
During the operation, militants launched an assault on the Chagai Police Station in Tehsil Chagai. Following the attack, they allegedly set the police station on fire, causing extensive damage to the building.
According to sources, the attackers also torched official records and government vehicles parked inside the police station premises.
The militants reportedly took an ambulance from the area before leaving, while no official statement has yet been issued regarding its whereabouts.
Residents said the armed group established road blockades at various entry and exit points of the town, where they carried out snap checking of vehicles and commuters for several hours.
The incident created panic among residents, forcing businesses to shut down and people to remain indoors as security remained uncertain.
Security forces have reportedly launched a response operation in and around the affected area. However, no official confirmation has yet been issued regarding casualties or the full extent of the incident.
