ISLAMABAD (MNN); Former Member of the National Assembly (MNA) and chief of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), Sardar Akhtar Mengal, has returned all salaries and allowances received during the period following his resignation from the National Assembly, reaffirming his commitment to transparency and public accountability.
According to documents submitted to the National Assembly Secretariat, Mengal handed over a cheque worth Rs7,892,725 (Rs7.89 million), representing the salaries and parliamentary allowances credited to his account from September 3, 2024, to February 11, 2026.
However, sources said the cheque, bearing Allied Bank cheque No. 2428698586 dated July 9, 2026, submitted to the National Assembly Secretariat, did not carry Akhtar Mengal’s signature.
Along with the cheque, Mengal also submitted a formal letter requesting the National Assembly Secretariat to transfer the entire amount lying in his parliamentary bank account to the national exchequer.
In his letter, Mengal stated that although salaries and allowances continued to be deposited into his parliamentary account after he tendered his resignation, he had not withdrawn or utilised any amount since resigning in September 2024.
“I am returning the entire amount of Rs7,892,725 received during the period from September 3, 2024, to February 11, 2026,” he wrote.
He further requested the Secretariat to transfer the amount to the government treasury, saying he remained committed to the principles of integrity, transparency and accountability in public service.
Akhtar Mengal had resigned from the National Assembly on September 3, 2024, as a protest against what he described as Parliament’s attitude towards the issues of Balochistan.
His resignation from NA-256 Khuzdar was formally accepted by the Speaker of the National Assembly on February 11, 2026.
The development has drawn attention as a rare instance of a former parliamentarian voluntarily returning salaries and allowances received after submitting his resignation.
