Web Desk; Security forces successfully thwarted two major terrorist infiltration attempts from Afghanistan on October 24 and 25, killing 25 militants — including four suicide bombers — in separate operations in North Waziristan and Kurram districts, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.
According to ISPR, Pakistani troops detected movements of two large groups of militants attempting to enter Pakistan from Afghan territory near Ghaki (Kurram) and Spinwam (North Waziristan).
“Our forces effectively engaged the terrorists, eliminating fifteen, including four suicide bombers affiliated with the Indian-backed group Fitna al-Khwarij, in Spinwam,” the statement said. Another ten were killed in Ghaki, where a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was seized.
Despite successfully preventing infiltration, five soldiers — Havildar Manzoor Hussain, Sepoy Nauman Ilyas Kiyani, Sepoy Muhammad Adil, Sepoy Shah Jehan, and Sepoy Ali Asghar — embraced martyrdom during intense gun battles.
The military statement noted that these infiltration attempts coincided with ongoing Pakistan-Afghanistan peace talks in Türkiye, raising concerns over Kabul’s sincerity in addressing cross-border terrorism.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan interim government to fulfil its Doha Agreement commitments and prevent the use of its soil by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referred to as Fitna al-Khwarij.
The ISPR reaffirmed that Pakistan’s security forces remain resolute in defending the nation’s borders, adding that sanitisation operations continue in the area as part of the ongoing “Azm-e-Istehkam” counterterrorism campaign. The military vowed to eliminate all foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist incidents in recent months, primarily in KP and Balochistan, following the TTP’s 2022 withdrawal from its ceasefire with the government. Just last week, security forces neutralised 34 Indian-backed militants in separate counterterrorism operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
