ISLAMABAD (MNN); The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday accused the government of contempt of court, alleging that it failed to comply with the Supreme Court’s order regarding the medical examination and treatment of incarcerated party founder Imran Khan at Shifa International Hospital. The party announced that it would approach the apex court on Saturday.
According to the account presented by Imran Khan’s sister Uzma Khan and his personal physician Dr Faisal Sultan, the PTI founder was instead taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), despite the Supreme Court’s direction to shift him to Shifa International Hospital.
Uzma Khan said Imran was later taken back to Adiala Jail after undergoing medical examinations. She claimed that he had been expecting to be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for a comprehensive examination and possible treatment.
Dr Faisal Sultan said he was separately taken to Shifa International Hospital and asked to wait for Imran Khan’s arrival. After waiting for more than two hours, he was informed that Imran might not be brought to the hospital and had apparently been returned to Adiala Jail.
The PTI and the opposition’s joint parliamentary party described the alleged non-implementation of the Supreme Court’s order as contempt of court and announced plans to seek legal action before the Supreme Court. The opposition also reiterated its plans for political mobilisation and the September 27 long march.
Separately, PTI leaders criticised the government’s handling of the matter and demanded full transparency regarding Imran Khan’s health and medical reports, while calling for implementation of the Supreme Court’s directions in letter and spirit.
